Pearl Jam’s second album was made under immense pressure considering how impressive their debut album was – the struggle to have the second be as good if not better than the first. The same weight was felt by Seattle native Ms. Wood last night when she showed for the second year at Portland Fashion Week. As last year’s Catapult winner her space on the runway had already been predetermined a year ago, as showing on the runway was part of the prize package.
Ms. Wood’s fashions could be seen sprinkled throughout the crowd, Portlander’s able to buy her fashion at local boutique’s, via her etsy store, and if you pester her enough, via a private showing at your home. Her laugh is damn near as infectious as her fashions, to know her is to want to friend her, and then get her to make you an entire new wardrobe.
She debuted a collection that is in stark contrast to her until now use of a darker color palette. Inspired by a recent trip to Hawaii, Ms. Wood opted for lighter shades stating; “The inspiration was a recent family vacation in Maui – Ms. Wood goes on vacation – it is very colorful and light and happy. Our last collection was a bit darker so I wanted to do something lighter and a little more upbeat.”
Mr. Wood is an incredibly integral part of the business, and is often times left out of the spotlight. He is the driving force behind the accessories as well as the footwear. 10 pairs of her infamous shoes were showcased, the traditional Mt. Kita alongside the new design of Ms. Wood Mary Jane’s. For the Mary Jane style shoe Ms. Wood collaborated with Multnomah Leather Shop, a local custom clog company to execute the Ms. Wood designed style. (Ms. Wood will also have a new zippered style that they will be selling along side the Mary Jane. These two styles will be for sale to the public for $350 a pair. Ms. Wood decided to sell direct to the public at wholesale prices. Also, either can be made in a new lower version (not platform.)
The accessory of sunglasses on the runway was provided by Shop Adorn and are from the House of Harlow collection.
